audition for the
Chicago Ballet company, a life-long dream of hers. The fact that she hadn't
applied for an audition was just looking in the gift horse's mouth. Naturally,
neither Tony nor Goodra could take such a trip to a big city without friends
to accompany them. While on the train to Chicago, Tony, naturally being curious
about all things mechanical, decided to see if he could examine the engine, but
instead was confronted by a pair of uncouth toughs, who seemed intent on tossing
him off the train, but quick thinking on the part of Tony and his friends foiled
their dastardly intent, removing them from the train instead. Meanwhile, a
shadowy figure in a slouched down hat and trench coat contacted Goodra, informing
her he was from the government, and wanted her to keep an eye out for "anything
suspicious".
Upon arriving at the station in Chicago, Tony was greeted by a group
of men who informed him that his "Uncle Guido" had died, and Tony had inherited
control of "the family". He was further informed that a war was imminent with
another family, which, since that would be "bad for business", he was expected
to stop with a negotiation happening at church, in a few days. The seriousness
of the situation was amply demonstrated by the hail of tommy gun bullets that
smashed the restaurant the gang went to for dinner that night. Meanwhile, Goodra
was informed her audition for the company would be the next day, so she decided
to celebrate by going out with Bart and Becky, who took her to a bar where, after
a few drinks she learned a whole new kind of dancing, and made some tips doing it…
She arrived for her audition and found her competition, two goons in tutus to be
little challenge, and she earned her spot-the lead in the ballet "Marriage of
Figaro", and she was due for the costume fitting the next day, which just happened
to be at a church…
Tony took the opportunity to get to know some of his boys, who seemed to have a
different understanding of the meaning of the word "mechanic" and were shocked
by his matter of fact discussion of the uses of chain lifts and blowtorches.
Goodra traveled to the church for the fitting of her "costume", a wedding gown
for the "Marriage of Figaro", while Tony traveled to the church to "end the feud",
which he was subsequently informed would be done in a traditional Sicilian fashion,
by a marriage alliance-to Goodra, who was revealed to be a scion of the opposing
family! As the cathedral was surrounded by several hundred heavily armed gangsters
intent on a wedding, Tony and Goodra seemed to have no way out of it…until the
Priest began the ceremony, and revealed himself to be Melwinkle, who'd somehow
managed to maneuver the gangs into believing his enemies were their leaders, and
so the kids would be caught in the booby-trapped church. Turning the tables on
Melwinkle, our heroes were able to snare him in his own web, as the angry mobsters
discovered they'd been duped and opened fire indiscriminately. They fled to the
shore where Melwinkle had a powerboat idling for a fast getaway, and sped off
into Lake Michigan, dodging a hail of .45 bullets as the burning wreckage of the
church collapsed, ridding them of Melwinkle once and for all, because no one could
have survived that.
