Technical Support

Live technical support is available Monday - Friday from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm, and on Saturday from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm.

To check for your local numbers, enter your phone number here:

Win 3.1

Win 95 or Win 98

Win ME or Win 2000

Win XP

Left-click the link corresponding to your Operating System above to view MEI installation instructions, or right-click on the link and choose "Save Target As" in Internet Explorer, or "Save Link As" in Netscape Navigator to download the instructions. The windows installation files are in .doc (Microsoft Word) format.

Check out our Tips section for help with uploading web pages, searching, pop-ups, and more.

If it's convenient to do so, you may also email technical support. Note that email support follows the same hours as phone support.

Try a Download Test

The only really accurate way to measure DSL speed is during a large sample.

Therefore, we are providing this large file for you to download: big file.

  1. Right click on it and "save as" or "save target as".
  2. Choose a location somewhere on your desktop.
  3. Internet transfers vary in speed and quality dynamically, so the transfer rate has to be averaged. Let the transfer go long enough for the average to stop jumping around and then cancel it.

Consult the following table for your expected transfer rate:
DSL speed Rate Calculation
dialup 5k bytes/s ((0.8* 48*1000 bits)/8)/1024= 5k bytes/s
768k bits/s 75k bytes/s ((0.8* 768*1000 bits)/8)/1024= 75k bytes/s
1024k bits/s 100k bytes/s ((0.8*1024*1000 bits)/8)/1024=100k bytes/s
1536k bits/s 150k bytes/s ((0.8*1536*1000 bits)/8)/1024=150k bytes/s
3000k bits/s 292k bytes/s ((0.8*3000*1000 bits)/8)/1024=292k bytes/s
6000k bits/s 585k bytes/s ((0.8*6000*1000 bits)/8)/1024=585k bytes/s

Question: Why multiply by 0.8?
Answer: Because of TCP and IP packet header overhead, you can never really get more than about 80% of your expected bandwidth.

Question: Why multiply by 1000 instead of 1024?
Answer: DSL equipment manufacturers use kilo meaning 1000 instead of kilo meaning 1024 like computer manufacturers. (Hard drive makers do this also.)

Question: I'm getting a little less than the expected rate listed here...
Answer: For the very fastest speeds listed, sometimes our webserver simply can't keep up. You'll find that's true of very many web servers around the net.

Question: I'm getting a lot less than the expected rate listed here!
Answer: Please call technical support for assistance. There is probably a problem with your DSL or your computer. We don't want it running slowly any more than you do!

MEI Diagnostics and Remote Assistance

We have created a new diagnostic utility. You may be asked to download it. It certainly can't hurt to download it before you need it. It can be found here:
